Martin Blackwell: Douchebag Genius was created for a 72-hour filmmaking event, meaning that the film was written, filmed, edited, and presented at the end of the event within 72 hours. The script used for the final film was written by Sam.

The screenplay was conceived and written independently by Sam, as one of several spec scripts produced by members of the team during the first 12 hours of the event. Sam’s script was chosen unanimously by the group as the final script, and the film was then filmed and edited by the team as a whole, with edits to the script made as needed during filming.
